The Tapo C520WS combines a sharp 2K 4-megapixel sensor with a built-in white spotlight and siren — giving you both evidence quality and an active deterrent in a single unit. When motion is detected, the spotlight can automatically activate, flooding the area with light and simultaneously recording full-colour footage rather than grainy monochrome infrared video.

Rated IP67, it is fully protected against dust ingress and temporary water immersion, making it one of the more weather-resistant cameras in its price bracket. Two-way audio via the Tapo app allows you to communicate with callers or issue a verbal warning without leaving the house. Smart detection algorithms distinguish people from general movement to keep alert frequency manageable.

Compatible with both Amazon Alexa and Google Home, you can view the live stream on an Echo Show or Google Nest Hub, or trigger routines based on detection events. The camera connects over 2.4GHz or 5GHz WiFi and can store recordings locally to a microSD card or in the Tapo Care cloud with subscription.

Installation Guide

The C520WS is a wired (mains-powered) outdoor camera — installation requires running a power cable to the mounting location. Always ensure the power is off at the mains before routing cables. If in doubt, consult a qualified electrician.

1. Download the Tapo app (iOS or Android) before you begin.
2. Choose your mounting position — ideally 2.5–4m above ground, covering the target area.
3. Route a power cable from a protected outdoor socket to the mounting point.
4. Attach the bracket using the supplied screws and wall plugs.
5. Connect the power cable to the camera and attach to the bracket.
6. Open the Tapo app, tap "+" and scan the QR code on the camera to set up WiFi.
